4. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

5. Let your gentleness be evident to all.
The Lord is near.

6. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

7. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

The Greek word used for “forbearing spirit” is translated as “gentle” in I Timothy 3:3, James 3:17 and I Peter 2:18. The NIV uses the word “considerate” in the James 3 and I Peter 2 passages. This same word is translated as “forgive” in Psalm 86:5 in the Greek translation of the Old Testament. How do forbearance, forgiveness, gentleness, and consideration all go together?

Right after Paul addresses the conflict between Euodia and Syntyche, he tells the Philippians to rejoice. How can rejoicing be a “cure” for conflict?
