A study
question for verse 12
James tells us that we
will receive the crown of life that is promised to those who love Him
and to those who have stood the test. We make the mistake of making our
trials all about ourselves. God has a bigger picture in view. When we
persevere under trials, we become a testimony to the Holy Spirit being
alive within us, which brings glory to God. One of the ways to achieve
joy and victory in our trials is to view them as opportunities to
achieve eternal rewards, as opposed to obstacles that detour us from our
plan of action. Scripture teaches us that there is a prize waiting for
us as we live godly and righteous lives (Philippians 3:14).
Unfortunately, we all too often completely forget about our eternal
rewards because we are fixated on our perishable earthly rewards.
Evaluate what you are working for in your life: the perishable rewards
that the unbeliever values, or the imperishable rewards (the crown of
life) that we will one day receive in heaven. |
